It’s August, and for some , that means summer is starting to wind down. But for the Houston Heights, ushering in the last full month of summer means the greatest party of the year is just around the corner. After a two-year hiatus, White Linen Night is coming back in full force, so don your white trappings and head to the Heights to make the most of Houston’s favorite block party.
From a Socorro golf course at Patterson Park to the grand opening of Benny Thunders, August 6, 2022, promises to be a White Linen Night for the history books. To help you plan your day for maximum enjoyment, here’s our guide to the best White Linen Night events in Houston this year.
Back in 2006, White Linen Night was created by two New Orleanians-turned-Houstonians, and now BB’s Tex-Orleans is carrying on the legacy. Drop by the Cajun restaurant and try their exclusive White Linen Night deal: any one of BBs’ po’boys, loaded with toppings and the restaurant’s signature chipotle-mayo sauce, and a St. Arnold beer for $18. And as you eat, enjoy some live music, which will be playing from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
As a destination for self-poured wine and craft beer, Benny Thunders will be opening their doors for the first time on White Linen Night. Their pay-as-you-pour system means you can taste-test their wide selection of wines and beers before you commit. Plus, their 60 taps include a variety of nonalcoholic drinks like kombucha and nitro coffee, so you can take a momentary break from the alcohol. The tavern also doesn’t expect you to try it all on an empty stomach—they’ll have food trucks on-site to satiate your hunger before you go on your way.
The August heat doesn’t make exceptions for White Linen Night, so if you’re starting the party early, make sure to drop by Bobcat Teddy’s Icehouse. The bar will be providing an outdoor tent with free air conditioning, so you can get out of the sun, cool down, and try to prevent any sweat stains from appearing on your white linen shirt. And just because you’re in the shade doesn’t mean you’re missing out—Bobcat Teddy’s Icehouse will also be supplying you with all the drinks you need to kick off White Linen Night, including their new frozen Bacardi piña coladas.
Heights & Co.’s White Linen Night festivities are an all-day affair, from a late brunch service starting at noon to a Grey Goose photo booth complete with complimentary vodka shots to $9 espresso martinis to top off the night. And if you can’t afford to spend too much time on the bar’s patio, don’t worry about missing out—Heights & Co. will also be running a to-go cocktail stand, so you can head to the other festivities with a drink already in your hand.
For early risers, Heights Antiques on Yale’s White Linen celebration is the perfect way to start the day’s festivities. Starting at 10 a.m., you can enjoy a complimentary buffet while you shop the sidewalk and the sale for your next great antique find. Best of all, the entire store will be at least 20 percent on sale, with some items up to 50 percent off.
The highlight of Heights Bier Garten’s White Linen Night party is the best-dressed contest—an opportunity to finally get recognition for the effort you put into assembling your all-white regalia. In the meantime, enjoy live performances from Step Rideau & The Zydeco Outlaws and Mycawa. Plus, since the celebration is sponsored by Haku Vodka and Roku Gin, your supply of drinks won’t be lacking for a moment.
The celebration continues at Little Woodrow’s White Linen glow party, complete with glow-in-the-dark activities and DJ sets running all day and late into the night. Play some of Little Woodrow’s signature lawn games on the patio, enjoy the fun music, and sip from the bar’s large selection of beers and spirits. While you’re there, you can get started on joining the bar’s Big 50 Club—a taste-testing of Little Woodrow’s 50 essential beers that, should you sample them all, will land you in their hall of fame and get you a free Big 50 T-shirt. You can knock two off the list per visit, and there’s no better time to start than White Linen Night.
Over in Northside Village, Monkey’s Tail will be fulfilling your pre- and post-event need for refreshments with its Frozen Mango Basil Smash, available that night only. Made from lemon basil vodka, coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, mango, and passion fruit and garnished with basil, the white cocktail is a must-have addition to your list of White Linen Night drinks.
Come Saturday, the parking lot of Onion Creek will become White Linen Night party central. Enjoy live music performances from DJ Fredster and The Shotgun Sally Band, frozen yardstick margaritas, and to-go pouch margaritas made from Dulce Vida Tequila. If you’re tired of the heat, reserve a table under Onion Creek’s VIP tent. For $150, you’ll get access to table service, an exclusive cocktail menu, an Onion Creek White Linen Night T-shirt, and air conditioning that’s cranked up to the max.
Houston’s favorite treehouse patio bar is giving it their all this White Linen Night. Celebrations last all day, with performances from DJ Little Martin and Kevin Valencia and appearances from Socorro Tequila and Deep Eddy Vodka. Try your hand at some Socorro-branded golf, complete with golf tees to take home, and enjoy Deep Eddy Vodka’s specialty strawberry lemonade and Moscow mule cocktails. And don’t miss out on Patterson Park’s exclusive White Linen Night cocktails, like their frozen white tea. As a bonus, the bar will also be decked out in white, including a white balloon arch, so you can get the perfect photos for your White Linen Night Instagram post while enjoying your drinks.
Railway Heights and Sit Bar are partnering to make White Linen Night dog-friendly this year, with their Doggy White Line Night festivities. There will be pools, sprinklers, and water games for your furry friends to frolic while you enjoy the live music and drinks. Dog vendors will also be making an appearance, so you can stock up on the best toys and treats for your beloved pet. And if you’re currently without a fur baby, the event will be hosting multiple animal rescues, so you can learn more about the two agencies and get to know some of the dogs up for adoption.
If music is a priority for your partying, The Heights Theater is the place to be. The theater’s bar will be open all evening long, and you won’t want to miss the DJ set by Dallas-based electronic band Ishi. The band prides itself on putting on multisensory live experiences, and their unique mix of funk, soul, and house styles promises to make for a White Linen Night performance to remember.
